Googong Water Recycling Plant construction

Black Mountain Construction Assurance (BMCA) was engaged by Googong Township Pty Ltd to support the delivery of critical water infrastructure. This major project underpins the township’s innovative water recycling system, which reduces potable water consumption by approximately 60 per cent.

Key project elements
  • Delivery of pumping, storage, treatment and distribution networks for both potable and recycled water
  • Construction of sewer pump stations and integration with Icon Water’s bulk water main
  • Construction of a 9ML reinforced concrete recycled water tank with complex structural components
  • Coordination of interfaces with multiple stakeholders including GTPL, QPRC, Icon Water, designers and contractors

Our team provided multi-disciplinary support including project management, contract administration, constructability reviews and site surveillance. Using our ConstructionEye software, we enabled efficient remote monitoring and real-time resolution of technical issues with Sydney-based designers, cutting costs and travel time.

Given the project’s proximity to Googong Reservoir and sensitive ecological areas, rigorous environmental compliance was essential. Our surveillance officers closely monitored contractor adherence to controls, providing critical feedback to client experts to ensure all conditions were met.

We also led procurement for Stage D, preparing tender documents, evaluating bids, and negotiating contracts. This secured significant cost savings and ensured timely commencement, enabling the release of new land parcels.

A key achievement was resolving a leak during pressure testing of the recycled water tank. Through collaborative problem-solving, we implemented innovative, cost-effective solutions that maintained project momentum.

Throughout, BMCA supported collaboration among client, contractors, consultants and regulators to deliver a technically complex and environmentally sensitive infrastructure program on time and within budget.
