BMCA supported the creation of one of Canberra’s most distinctive public playgrounds in Denman Prospect – featuring high-end play equipment, integrated water features and premium landscaping.
Designed as a major recreation destination for the growing Molonglo Valley community, the new Community Recreation Irrigated Park has delivered accessible, family-friendly infrastructure with a strong focus on quality and design excellence.
Our team was engaged to provide site surveillance services, a role which evolved to also a joint superintendent and contract administrator position. This reflected the value of our on-site coordination, issue resolution and quality assurance.
Key project features
- Landmark play equipment and water features
- Complex earthworks and ground shaping on sloped terrain
- Structural concrete amenities building
- Stonework parapet walls and public stairways
- Accessible pathways and elevated walkways
- Premium landscaping and lighting
The project includes bespoke play structures that required detailed coordination across disciplines. BMCA was instrumental in reviewing drawings, verifying foundation positioning, managing specialist lifting operations and ensuring protective measures during ongoing works. High community expectations and premium design finishes demanded exceptional attention to detail throughout.
BMCA also provided technical input on numerous design issues identified throughout the project – such as where sloped site conditions affected pedestrian connectivity. We led on-the-ground collaboration between the contractor, surveyor and design team to ensure key features like the central staircase, accessible ramps and walkways aligned with design intent and accessibility standards.
ConstructionEye provides digital eyes on the ground
Our custom-built platform ConstructionEye was used extensively to share site audit findings, track quality issues and support coordinated inspections across contractors and trades.
The digital tool also streamlined pre-inspection workflows and provided real-time visual updates to the client team – supporting agile and transparent decision-making.
A park that’s already making an impact
Community feedback on the project has been overwhelmingly positive, with strong public interest and support even prior to full completion. BMCA’s consistent presence on site, technical oversight, and collaborative approach continue to contribute to a high-quality outcome – delivered with care, precision, and a deep understanding of public realm expectations.
