Gundaroo Drive Duplication Stage 3

BMCA was engaged by AECOM to support the delivery of the $55 million Gundaroo Drive Duplication Stage 3 – an essential upgrade to 3.5 km of arterial road in Canberra’s north.

Scope of works
  • Installation of new signalised intersections
  • Replacement and upgrade of five pedestrian underpasses
  • Construction of a new Super-T bridge and extension of the existing structure
  • Major earthworks and pavement upgrades
  • Traffic management, staging and bus stop relocations
  • Coordination of complex utility relocations (including Telstra, DDTS and Icon Water)

BMCA provided up to five team members during construction, including a Resident Engineer and specialists in civil, structural and landscape surveillance. The team’s responsibilities included contract administration, technical support, quality and safety auditing, and coordination with multiple stakeholders.

The project was delivered across three stages by two separate contractors, requiring careful interface management. BMCA’s Resident Engineer played a key coordination role – drafting contractual correspondence, managing requests for information (RFIs), auditing works and ensuring clear communication with the client and contractors.

Despite challenges related to contractor resourcing and weather delays, BMCA helped maintain progress and transparency through consistent reporting and graphical program dashboards. Further, we helped achieve a $1 million project saving by proposing treatments to overcome unsuitable ground conditions.

BMCA’s practical, on-the-ground support and collaborative approach have helped ensure project continuity, safety and quality on this complex infrastructure upgrade.
